Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

2000 was a good year. Baggy jeans and wallet chains were de rigueur, all the cool kids were listening to pop-punk and the Tony Hawk series hit it's peak. The first game was good and the multitude of further sequels ranged from 'meh' to 'godawful', but THPS2 is arguably the best the genre's ever produced. it took the open ended gameplay laid out in the first game and expanded on it - upping the number of objectives per level to ten, and introducing manuals that let you string together tricks between jumps. The sense of empowerment was awesome-and who hasnt fantasised about busting into the school gym out of hours to wreak havok, all to a soundtrack of slaming guitars ?

The Raid

Director Gareth Evans Starring Iko Uwais, Joe Taslim, Donny Alamsyah ETA 24 Sep

An Indonesian martial arts film directed by a Welshman, The Raid combines brilliantly choreographed action sequences with brutal violence. The simple setup - police have to take down a crime boss who lives at the top of an impenetrable tower block - leaves the fighting to speak for itself, and altough its relentlessness becomes wearisome at times, an impressive moment is never far away.

Tenchu : Stealth Assassins
THE ORIGINAL MASTER OF AVOIDING BEEING SEEN

Beating Metal Gear Solid out of the stealth stables by only a matter of months, this was the first PlayStation game to really focus on the art of staying completely out of sight. With you playing as ninja assassins, each level was a small open-world playground that let you creep around guard patrols and scamper over rooftoops using a grapple hook in search of the perfect kill and the cleanest playtrough. you also had two characters: a slower, hard hitting ninja called Rikimaru and the faster but more delicate Ayame (dual wielding two short swords). It's worth noting as well that, at a time when 3D was still a fairly new phenomenon, this went for a full over the shoulder third person view, while Metal Gear Solid was still largely sticking to top down cameras. Admittedly all of the levels were set at night because that was easier to render on PS1, but for many gamers, this was the first time they experienced true 3D stealth.

PES 3

it's now fashionable to talk about liking pro Evo in the early '00s as a mark of distinguished taste - the work of konami's virtual kickball team under Shingo Takatsuka spoken of in the same severe and hushed tones as scoresese in the '70s or pre-season five the Wire. Which is to say that it's the purist's choice, and PeS 3, released inn 2003, was the purest of them all. living in the shadow of FIFA's ubiquity, PES 3 was the ultimate expression of Konami's discipline and technique (so much so that the cover, in a shiny bald two fingers to FIFA's annual superstar, featured referee Pierluigi Collina). it was the peak from which Pro Evo's been falling ever since - the gameplay convincing and the Master Leauge perfected to the point it could realistically be played forever.

Grand Chase Review

Grand Chase Review

Grand Chase was developed by the Korean company ‘KOG Studios’ and originally released back in 2003. Only in the beginning of 2008 was the game localized and brought to the North American market by Ntreev, the publishers of another 2D MMORPG with cute graphics — Trickster Online. The graphics of Grand Chase were not very impressive even back in 2003 but fancy visuals were never the goal. Instead, Grand Chase is a casual friendly game with simple controls and a mainly cooperative gameplay style. Side scrollers are hard to come by these days so it’s always good to see imaginative games like this being brought over from overseas.

Three For One
Grand Chase doesn’t have a character creation process, instead new players have access to three female characters: a melee fighter, archer, and mage. Each of these can be selected at any time before starting a game. Each levels up and has their own equipment and missions. There are an additional five characters that can be unlocked, 4 of which are male but the fact that none of the starting characters are male can be frustrating. For a detailed explanation of what each character does and their job progression, take a look at the overview tab. Overall, I feel Grand Chase has a good concept going here. Why bother forcing players to make multiple characters or accounts? Since each character must be leveled up independently, this feature also adds a lot to the game’s play time. Unlocking and leveling up all 8 characters is not something most players will commit to, but there are always completionists out there.

Left to Right
Unlike traditional MMORPGs, Grand Chase has no persistent world and works more in a lobby fashion where players host rooms and others join. There are currently two servers which never get more than mildly populated, so finding a full group of adventurers is not always easy. A short, optional tutorial is available to teach the game’s controls but it’s really not very helpful otherwise. The tutorial pits you against a motionless foe that acts as a training dummy for you to try out all of the game’s attacks. Gameplay is handled exclusively with the keyboard while interface navigation is done through the mouse. Since Grand Chase is a 2D side scrolling game, players can only move left or right, the up arrow causes you to jump and the down arrow descends players to the previous level. ‘Z’ performs your basic attack while holding Z activates special skills. Which skill your character performs is based on how long you hold the ‘z’ key before releasing. The longer you hold, the more powerful the spell. Players can also dash by double tapping either left or right and perform aerial attacks by hitting ‘z’ while jumping. By spamming the attack key, your character pulls off some impressive combos. This, along with occasionally moving away and waiting for the AI controlled monsters to do their predictable attacks, is usually enough to get past most stages.

Into the Forest
There are currently three continents in the Grand Chase world but players start with access to only the first. Each continent has roughly a dozen stages but it won’t take long to get sick of them. Players will find themselves playing through each stage many, many times since various quest requirements cannot be met with a single run-through. To make matters worse, each stage has three difficult settings and certain quests are tied to specific difficulty settings. If you’re looking to work up more than one character at a time, expect to run through some of the stages dozens of times. The fact that you have to repeat stages so often may be frustrating but don’t let that bother you too much, the gameplay in Grand Chase is fast paced and the early stages can be cleared within minutes with a group of four players. Each level has a boss at the end which makes for an exciting finish. Items collected throughout the stage are randomly distributed at the end and the game encourages cooperation by rewarding bonus experience based on the size of the party. This makes grinding through easy stages alone unproductive, but finding other players to group with is not always easy.

Side Scrolling Battles
Players looking for an alternative way to earn experience and prefer a more competitive playstyle can turn to the PvP mode. Players can actually earn more experience from PvPing than they can from playing story stages. The experience earned is proportional to how well you perform, so players can’t take advantage of this experience method until later levels when they stand a chance in PvP. A tab at the top of the screen puts players in a simple lobby where they can see matches hosted by other players. There is both a team and free for all game mode with up to 6 players per round participating. Other options include ‘Tag Match’ where each player can use two characters and swap between them during the battle. A special item mode can be selected which makes power ups appear around the map. These range from temporary invisibility, invulnerability, damage increases and more. It’s usually much easier to find a PvP game than it is to find a decent group for the PvE missions, but the level ranges are usually staggering.

Accessorize!
Players earn GP by completing missions, quests, and by performing well in PvP. With this GP, they can head to the in-game store and buy new equipment. There are many pages of clothes, weapons, and accessories available for purchase with either GP or real money. The sheer number of items a player can have equipped at one time is hard to believe.  I’ve seen people with a slime pet following them, necklaces, helmets, glowing lights around them and even a gopher over their heads all at once. Most of these items serve a functional use by providing stat boosts but almost every item is temporary, meaning they will disappear after a set time. Even equipment received as quest rewards are timed which can leave you naked until you start playing again and earn new gear. I’ve heard people complain that too many items require real cash to purchase but from my experience, the store had plenty options for free players. Currently, the max level is 60 but the early levels go by very fast which lets you experiment with all three of the starting characters and decide which play style you prefer. Overall, the story missions are relatively easy provided you have a somewhat competent team – the PvP, on the other hand, is much more complex. Since combat is done in real time, getting a feel for how attacks work and timing your dashes, dodges, and jumps is very important. With that said, Grand Chase has a little for everyone who can get past the simplistic graphics.

Final Verdict: Good
Grand Chase is beginning to show its age and while not the most complicated game, it has simple yet satisfying gameplay to keep players entertained. With a unique style, three continents to explore, eight characters to develop and a skill based PvP mode, Grand Chase has plenty of content to keep fans interested.

Grand Chase Tour - Season 3
Back in spring 2010, SG Interactive (formerly known as Ntreev USA) released season 3 updates for Grand Chase, a multiplayer online brawler with cute anime flavored boys and girls that love beating the crap out of monsters, evil villains and each other. Season 3 featured numerous updates including a complete overhaul for missions, items and user Interfaces,  plus brand new dungeons , land and tons more.

I used to play this game way back before it was even in English, and I was pretty damn good at it, so I was more than ready to give the new Grand Chase a go.

Tour Start
The tour started off kind of slow, as the first stop on the tour was a trip to the game's tutorial mode. Training with the tutorial mode has been incredibly revamped, allowing you to try out every character available with tons of possible tweaks and combinations. Back in the day, there was only Elesis, Lire and Arme. But now, eight new characters have joined the fight, such as Jin the martial arts expert and Amy the divine dancer. As much as I wanted to give everyone a try, I decided to get re-acquainted with Elesis.

Grand Chase MMORPG 16 Combo
With the time I spent fooling around with the tutorial mode, I re-learned some of Elesis' bread n' butter combos. During this, I noticed the "Type 1" icon hovering over the MP bar. The GM explains that some characters have the ability to switch between two different skills sets with a quick press of the spacebar. Skill switching opened up a whole new set of possibilities for me, so I was pretty eager to try them in action when I had the chance.

After I finished warming up in the tutorial, I was asked to hop on the Gorgos server and from there; we took to the equipment screen so the GM could explain, in fine detail, all the nice features that shows how much Grand Chase has evolved. In the previous versions of Grand Chase, stat properties that went with your equipment were very bare bones, but now there are tons of new stats properties to take into consideration, such as Critical hit rate, Counterattack resistance, HP recovery rate and more.

But it doesn't end there: Some of your equipment can be stat tweaked even further with the properties menu (on some equipment) that will let you select several options to fit your fighting tactics.

Grand Chase Item Properties
But wait... there's even more tweaking you can do! Grand Chase also has a card system that allows you to socket your equipment with cards of monsters you've slain in combat. Each card holds small effects that can be combined with other cards to create wicked combinations.

Grand Chase Monster Card
They've also added a crafting system that is familiar to those found in MMORPGs. Simply put: You can use this system to create equipment that can be found in the shop or equipment that can only be created by crafting.

So many customization options, so little time! Even though I didn't care much for any of the customization available, it was neat to know that every detail of your character could be tweaked 'til you heart's content.

But enough talk of customization... It was time to take some action! I joined up with GM_Bawkzie to check out some of the dungeons. We started off slow: Over at the Trial Forest, we beat up a couple of mushroom dudes before heading off to defeating a giant tree monster. Of course, these monsters weren't a challenge for us, so we jumped over to the Wyrm's Maw dungeon to take on some more adequate enemies.

Lots of Number Free to play MMORPG
The place was crawling with fire breathing baddies and I was itching to take them all out. Despite my confidence, I ended up dying twice before deciding not to play like a maniac, all while GM_Bawkzie hanged back and tore the place up without getting a scratch.

Grand Chase 1552 Combo MMORPG
After we finished our dungeon run, it was time for the main event: PvP! But before we got started, GM_Bawkzie wanted to explain a little bit about the skill tree system: Adopted from many other MMORPGs out there, making use of skill trees in Grand Chase allows you to gain new skills after mastering a few prerequisites. Skill trees are broken up into active and passive skills.

Grand Chase Skill set MMORPG
I was also asked to try out Dio, one of the recent additions to Grand Chase's playable characters. Dio apparently doesn't play out quite the same as everyone else, as he relies on AP instead of MP to perform skills. Also unlike the other Grand Chase characters: he can create each attack links from his basic skills and specials, making him very easy to play, but difficult to master.

Grand Chase Christmas Time
But there was one more thing I decided to ask before the tour ended. I wanted to know what was up with the little gray dragon that GM_Bawkzie had. Then I was told that Grand Chase featured a neat little pet system: While most MMOs included pets that simply boosted your stats and showed off how rich you were, pets in Grand Chase actually fight alongside you. Pets need to be taken care off with feeding and battle experience so they can evolve and gain new attacks.

We hopped back into another PvP battle to show off what some of the pets could do. I had a little penguin pet by my side that shot weak balls of fire, while GM_Bawkzie had some kind of robo maid that shot a crapton of lasers that could stun enemies. Needless to say, it was obvious which one would be more useful in a fight.

Grand Chase Game Master MMORPG
There were a lot of other features that were mentioned during the tour, such as guild functions, a couples function and even a park for players to run around and just chat.

Grand Chase Party
Overall, I had lots of fun playing Grand Chase after being away from it for such a long time. A lot of features gave the game some much needed depth while keeping the core gameplay simple enough for gamers of all skill ranges to enjoy.

I had such a good time that I might even start playing again! I may not be a total pro since I haven't been at it for a while, but I should be good enough to beat newbs at the least, so watch out!

Eden Eternal Review

Eden Eternal Quick Review

Audio - 9/10
The music in the game is very well done and suits the game... although I haven't listened to it much since my daughter insists the wiggles should be on 24/7, from what I have heard of the music it seems to blend well. The only music I haven't had the time to really listen to is the dungeon music.. as with most rpg's I am hoping its not cheese and actually flows with the dungeon atmosphere.

Graphics - 9/10
The game is cell-shaded but unlike other cell-shaded games it is really well done. One glitch I did notice that I thought was kinda funny, was when you have a shield on your back, zoom in on your character and do a side view.. the shield is floating in mid-air.. that is the only flaw I can see at the moment.

Gameplay - 9/10
As for the direction of the game.. its exactly like any MMORPG.. you do quests, level up.. rinse and repeat. What makes Eden Eternal stand out is the fact that besides the servers crashing in closed beta because of the over-flow of players wanting to play and they had to put up a whole new server in open beta to even balance the demand,, the game has a unique leveling-class aspect about it. You have to level up your character PLUS the class you are currently playing.. as you progress the game and level, new classes open up to you.

You start out as either a Warrior or Magician. When your class level reaches lvl 5, you unlock the cleric class.. it seems as though every 5 levels you open up a new class. I did notice when my class level was at lvl 10 for my warrior and magician, they got new costumes. So I am assuming for every 10 levels you level your class level to, you are rewarded with a new costume.

One part I noticed and I didn't like is that when you equip a piece of armor.. say I put a chest-piece on my warrior..I can't see what it looks like, I can only see the costume. I would have preferred to have the option of not viewing the costumes so that I could see what the armor looks like as well. You do get the option to re-color parts of your costumes separately and that seems like an interesting concept. I have tried it several times to make all of the costumes I had a blinding bright pink.. but when you read the description for the color change items, they say its random. I do not know if there are permanent ones further on in the game, I would assume so... but they should also be offered to the lower levels as well because that randomness in the color change item.. it drove me NUTS!!!

Pets, yeah Eden has them.. your first pet is a pug.. I think its completely adorable and the fact you can get it to sit pretty, chase its tail and sit almost makes me all gushy inside. I have seen other pets in the game, but I have not bothered to find out how to get them or even where because more then one pet to me gets in the way.

Overall
I can foresee a great outcome with Eden Eternal. Its high demand at such an early stage may come as a surprise to some but also shows that the interest in this game is there.. its just up to the team behind the scenes, to improve and make it better so that it lasts and keeps us all wanting more.

Eden Eternal Online

Eden Eternal Review

Eden Eternal is a completely free to play anime styled MMOPRG developed by X-legend and published by Aeria Games. This is a social game with a persistent world, encouraging you to team up with other players to achieve your goals and have fun!

First Impressions
When you start up Eden Eternal you can select multiple servers with a lot of different channels to choose from. This makes the servers not too full and alleviates the issues of massive KS wars in the starter zones. When you have selected the server you want to play on it is time to create your character. Now the character customization is very basic but does its job, the features you can customize about your character are race, gender, face, hair, hair color, skin and eyes. The races in Eden Eternal at the time this review was written were the Human and the Zumi, although the Anuran has since been released. The Zumi is a class that looks like a mice and might be one of the most unique looking races I have seen in a game. The Anuran look like lanky toad people and have a feel of warrior pride to them.

When you have created your character it is time to get into the new continent in the world of Eden Eternal. Since I have a really good computer I decided to play this game on maximum settings with everything turned on. Now this was a big mistake, usually I am a big fan of a little blur in the game. In Eden Eternal however this is not a wise choice, as the blur effect put a major strain on my eyes overtime.

When I got into the world and got my first quest I was a little bit surprised, normally you get a really advanced tutorial. However in Eden Eternal I unfortunately didn’t get any tutorial so it was a bit of a learning process to figure out all the features hidden within this game.

I must say the world map in this game is really well made and there is an auto walk option if you click on anywhere in the map. I decided to play as a magician as I usually do and I really liked the class, and even if I didn’t I was not bound to this class and could have changed to any of the five archetypes by about level 15. Each class is unlocked upon reaching certain achievements, with the basic class for each archetype being simple level requirements while more advanced classes put you through intense challenges.

Story
Now the story is pretty basic and simple but gives a lot of openings for other races and thus for more game content. Races from all over the world decided to abandon their homes and set sail to the horizon. Each race eventually arrived at untouched land in the center of the world. On this new continent all the races decided to live together and build their homes. After a while all the different races had their own vision of building a perfect Utopia.

As you can guess they were too stubborn and tension rose as arguments turned into fights and a war started. Because of the conflict the land shattered and ripped the new world apart. The apocalypse was only prevented by a group of mysterious humans born from blue crystals who restored order and sealed the monsters away. However history seems to be repeating and it’s up to you to take up the role of a hero of your people to solve the mysteries of this impending doom and fulfill the role of the crystal people once again.

Gameplay
The controls in Eden Eternal feel marvelous and might be one of the smoothest movements I have experienced in a MMORPG. You are able to move your character with the WASD keys or you can point to click your character. The skills are activated by pressing the hotkeys in the bottom of your user interface; these skills cannot be used when you click on them however so if you are a clicker you might have to learn to use your keyboard. The skills are really well made and the effects are beautiful with each unique spell you use. Concepts such as slash versus blunt damage and a triangle of power between elements add further strategic value to skill use. I never felt like I was just button smashing mindlessly to kill monsters in this game.

One issue with movement though is this game has a fetish for invisible walls. Every object tends to have a much larger collision detection radius than the actual object leads you to believe. For example I saw a bench in the starting town, I went over to it to sit or jump on it I got blocked off by an invisible wall. This makes the game feel like a closed environment, and unfortunately I am a big supporter with an open world where you can basically jump on everything. Nonetheless this is just a minor setback of the game engine and the actual combat more than makes up for it.

The dungeons are the real selling point of this game. The graphics might be chibi but the challenges are intense. When ColbyCheeze tried jumping straight into the game on DizzyPW’s tank, his party spent 5 hours wiping on a level 3x dungeon because he didn’t fully understand the intricacies of all his interrupt and agro management skills. I can attest that playing the game from level 1 up is vital in the learning process to make sure you are well prepared for the challenges and random monster ambushes awaiting in the end-game dungeons. DoubleDoor and his school of witchcraft and wizardry made me rage the whole way through but was so satisfying seeing that old man face down on the floor!

Graphics
The graphics in this game are really stunning and really advanced for a free to play game. To play this game you would need to have a Intel Pentium 4 processor or something equivalent, along with 1 gigabyte of ram and at least a Geforce nVidia GeForce FX 5200 or ATI Radeon 9600 video card. The recommend system requirements are a little higher than normal but should run on most modern machines. This game is a really good looking game with a well-polished and optimized engine. Hopefully other companies realize what Eden Eternal has accomplished and use it as a bar to aim for in the free to play anime-styled market.

PVP
In Eden Eternal there are several ways to play PvP (Player versus Player). You are able to duel other players in the game to test your skills as a friendly match. Recently the Territory War has been announced, in the Territory War the system puts guilds in a free for all brawl. This will push the limits of teamwork, forcing players to work in a timely manner to either claim or defend the various territories. To win the Territory War you have to capture several places and monsters on the map. After you have done this you are able to destroy the Sand Crystal in the Sand Fortress. There are several different battlegrounds and you can find the dates and times these are available in your event schedule.

Earlier I mentioned the well thought out skills and in PvP this really comes into play. Nearly every skill has a side effect beyond just pure damage and a relatively long cool-down compared to most MMO’s that give every class one spammable skill. This forces players to get creative, stun-lock enemies, use skills in specific orders, and save interrupts to block ultimates in clutch maneuvers. If you’re going in as a healing archetype or tank, expect a rough time because every skill you use is vital to your team’s success.

Conclusion
Eden Eternal is a really fun game to play. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay along with the controls feel really smooth. The game might feel a little grindy even though there are quite a few of quests to pick up. I really enjoyed playing this game and I will definitely play it more and see what the future brings. Eden Eternal feels like it is the top student in its class and has set a new bar in the anime-MMO genre. I would recommend everyone play this game because it takes a bunch of features that work in its genre, and perfects each of them to a whole new level of polish.

Background Story
The Serdin and Kanavan Kingdoms, the biggest kingdoms on the Bermesiah Continent, coexisted in peace until their lands were slowly overcome by the evil Queen of Darkness, Kaze’aze.

Kaze’aze managed to infiltrate the Kanavan Kingdom by murdering the Kanavan Queen’s most loyal and trusted retainer, and then disguising herself as him. As a result, Kaze’aze was able to get close to the Queen and entice her with the ways of darkness.

Kaze’aze blinded the Queen of Kanavan’s eyes to truth and led her to wage a five-year war against the Serdin Kingdom. All of Bermesiah Continent was devastated; many heroes fell in battle, and even the Queen of Serdin sacrificed her life in hopes of ending the fighting.

The death of the Queen of Serdin broke Kaze’aze’s hold over the Queen of Kanavan, who, after finally regaining her senses, erupted with fury over Kaze’aze’s treachery. Kaze’aze escaped before the Queen of Kanavan could execute her. This lead the Queen to dispatch Trackers to punish the Queen of Darkness. But after years of searching, she was nowhere to be found and the Queen’s Trackers vanished as well; forcing the Queen of Kanavan to abandon her search.

The Serdin Kingdom experienced a series of bizarre incidents related to Kaze’aze after the Five-Year War: these events revealed that Kaze’aze manipulated the Kanavan and Serdin Kingdoms into fighting each other.

The newly appointed Queen of Serdin is now determined to prevent Kaze’aze from starting another war between the two kingdoms for the sake of the entire continent.

The Queen of Serdin has prepared to confront Kaze’aze and counter her evil plans by organizing Grand Chase, an elite corps that will fight for all of Bermesiah.

Lost Saga Online

Lost Saga Review

Lost Saga is an incredibly unique 3D Fighting MMO published by OG Planet. Gameplay-wise, Lost Saga plays out a lot like games like Rumble Fighter and Splash Fighters, with two exceptions – it’s a lot more chaotic, and much more fluid. Think of Lost Saga as a 3D super smash brothers MMO (with more chaos), and some interesting MMO elements. Choose from one of over nine playable ‘heroes’ ranging from the generic fantasy ‘Fire Mage’, to the more modern gun-wielding ‘Infantryman’, and duke it out online with up to 16 players at once across numerous game modes.

Starting Out

Immediately after logging into Lost Saga for the first time – players are given the option of completing a short yet informative tutorial. The tutorial only takes a few minutes to complete and is well worth checking out before proceeding to join a game. All players start off their adventures in Lost Saga as a Shadow Assassin, one of the game’s many playable heroes, and must first ‘unlock’ the other characters before being able to play them. The good thing is that none of the game’s heroes are exactly ‘over powered’, so even though most players won’t have access to the higher tier characters right away, the game is still fairly balanced. Anyways, right after completing the tutorial players should go ahead and join their first game by selecting the ‘battle’  button on the bottom-left corner of the screen. I recommend joining a ‘team match’ game first, as players respawn right away after dying.  This makes it the most newbie friendly of the game modes.

Extremely Chaotic

Lost Saga is an extremely chaotic fighting game. It’s fairly fast-paced and supports to up 16 players at once. Nearly all of the game’s maps are fairly small as well, and the fact that most of the game’s heroes have at least one ‘area-of-effect’ skill further fuels the chaotic nature of the game. Another aspect of the game that makes it all the more intense is that every single one of the game’s 9+ playable heroes have four different skills, so at any given time there’s almost always a Shadow Assassin hidden somewhere in the shadows waiting to ambush a player, or a Fire Mage up front casting some devastating area of effect spells. While playing, try to knock enemies off of the map, as falling off the map deals A LOT of damage to a player. Personally, after playing many slow-paced fighting MMOs like Rumble Fighter and Splash Fighters, I find that the hectic nature of Lost Saga is quite fun.

Unlocking New Heroes

All players in Lost Saga start off with access to only a single hero (the “Shadow Assassin”), but can quickly unlock the other heroes by playing the game for a bit. I was able to unlock the “Iron Knight” class after a single “Team Match” game, and the “Fire Mage” after four “Team Match” games, so unlocking new heroes doesn’t take that long. Do keep in mind that although new heroes have to be purchased in the game’s store with Pesos (the game’s currency) in order to be used, every time a new hero is unlocked for the first time players are rewarded with ’2 hours’ of free game time with that hero. After those two hours are up, you’ll need to purchase additional time with that hero in the game’s store. It’s not a bad system, as most people won’t play as every single hero, but rather only a handful of them. Personally, I only liked playing as Iron Knight and Infantryman, so I could spend my money on purchasing time only for those heroes rather than all of them. The first two hours with each hero is free, so players will have plenty of time to try them all out and see which they like the best. Also, keep in mind that unlike games like Combat Arms and Wolfteam, (where players purchase items for X amount of days, the timer beginning immediately after the purchase), the hero time in Lost Saga only counts the time spent actually playing the game and that particular hero, not time spent logged off or in the chat lobby.

Enormous amounts of customization / Variety

Perhaps the most notable feature in Lost Saga is the game’s customization options and variety. Every single one of the game’s many heroes each level-up/earn experience independently from one another based on how often and how effective they were used in a single match. Every time a player dies, they can choose to spawn as a new hero, so if the enemy team has a bit too many fire mages or Infantryman it may be a wise decision to respawn as a Shadow Assassin and ambush them from behind with stealth. As players earn experience for their heroes and level them up they can further customize them by purchasing them new clothing, as well as use up ‘upgrade points’ earned by leveling up on decreasing skill cooldowns or boosting attributes (Attack, Defense, Speed and Dexterity). Every single hero has their own skills and attributes, so try to level the heroes you’re good with rather than all of them at once. Each hero feels distinctly different as well, so it’s hard to get bored of Lost Saga. If you’re tired of playing as a Knight, try the Cowboy or Boxing Champ hero. The developers are constantly working on releasing more heroes as well, so in terms of overall content and variety, Lost Saga scores quite well.

Even more Variety!

One incredibly interesting aspect of Lost Saga that I feel adds a lot of depth to the game is that players can pick up weapons and equipment from other players that they defeat, or their allies defeat. The equipment you pick up can change which skills your character has, which makes for some really interesting combination. If I’m playing as a Shadow Asssassin and I pick up, say, a Wizard’s Hat, I’ll lose my own ‘hat throw’ ability but gain the Fire Mage’s teleport skills. Let’s say I’m teleporting around and killing people as a weird Fire Mage/Shadow Assassin combo, and I also drop my Assassin claws for an Infantryman’s rifle.  Now I’m running around with the Stealth ability of an Assassin, the teleport ability of a Fire Mage, and the ranged attack of an Infantryman. Of course, in order to pick up a weapon from a dead player, you need to drop yours first, but this whole mix-and-match-pick-up-dead-people’s-equipment system is a really quite awesome. My favorite mix of items was the Knight’s gear plus an Infantryman’s gun, as it allowed me to have incredibly high defense as well as a powerful ranged attack. Keep in mind, though – if you die, you’ll respawn as one of the default classes again.

Few Game Modes

Even though my favorite game modes in Lost Saga was ‘Team Match’.  The game has a few other modes worth mentioning. Team Match has two team (red and blue), and whichever team reaches a certain amount of kills first wins. Death Match is exactly like Team Match, but without the teams. Prisoner Mode plays out like Team Match except without respawns (Think Counter-Strike). Lastly, the “Boss Raid” gameplay mode involves all players on one team against one tough computer controlled ‘boss’ on the other. One of my only major complaints with Lost Saga is that there aren’t more game modes. I mean, come on – how hard could it have been to program a few extra modes? Game modes like “King of the Hill” and “Capture the Flag”, for example, should have definitely been included.

Final Verdict – Great

Lost Saga is without a doubt one of the best fighting MMOs out there. The sheer amount of customization and variety, as well as genuinely fun gameplay makes Lost Saga a must-play for anyone into the whole ‘fighting’ MMO genre. Do keep in mind though, the gameplay is extremely chaotic and likely won’t appeal to everyone, though I still suggest that anyone who hasn’t played Lost Saga yet to at least check it out. What are you waiting for? Give Lost Saga a try!
